Types of Budd-Chiari syndrome

Budd-Chiari syndrome is a relatively rare disorder caused by occlusion of hepatic veins. It presents with abdominal pain, ascites, and hepatomegally.

Budd-Chiari syndrome has four clinical variants:

  • acute
  • subacute
  • chronic
  • fulminant

Budd-Chiari syndrome can be:

  • primary (congenital obstruction  by webs or diaphragms)
  • secondary (multiple causes)
